The Day of the Cleaners: My recipes from the eyes of a six year old.

The Day of the Cleaners: My recipes from the eyes of a six year old.

I am always looking for ways to save some cash. Long before I agreed to give in and get a Pinterest, Adam had mentioned that we should start making out own laundry detergent. I laughed since I thought buying whatever was on sale at the time had to be cheaper than making it myself. Plus, I was a major doubter. I didn’t want my clothes to be all yucky. However, now that I am fully addicted to Pinterest, I have read at least 100 different recipes for homemade detergents. I price matched at a few stores and I am WAY cheaper making my own. Like…a gazillion times cheaper…
I bought the stuff and planned on making my own laundry detergent, fabric softener, and dishwasher soap. I had every intention of getting to the actually making at some point, but Adam was too excited to wait. He and Belle went to work a few days ago on making my recipes. All of the pictures I will attach are ones that Belle took, so sit back and enjoy the world through the eyes of a six year old for a bit. I’ll include my recipes too!

 Powdered Dishwasher Detergent

Ingredients
1 cup of 20 Mule Team Borax
1 cup of Arm and Hammer washing soda
    ½ cup salt
2 packs of Lemonade KoolAid (forget the sugar)
Directions
You just have to pour all of the ingredients together and mix them well. To use, place 1 tablespoon of the powder into the dishwasher for each load.

Fabric Softener

6 Cups Water
2 Cups Hair Conditioner
3 Cups White Vinegar
Directions
Mix it all up. Use about ½ c per load. I just follow the lines on my Downy Ball.

Homemade Powdered Laundry Soap

1 bar of soap (I used VS Perfect Body Pink Sugar because it smells like heaven)
        1 cup of borax
        1 cup of washing soda
Directions: Grate the soap, and then mix everything together. Use ¼ cup per load.

I was busy making cupcakes for Father's Day while they were busy with the soap.

So far everything has worked great. I can't wait to experiment around and find some ways to make it a little more original.
Do you make your own soaps? What do you do differently?
